Nursing Beyond the Classroom
Outside of the classroom, students have many opportunities to display their talents and clinical competencies in nursing care within the local community, across the U.S., and globally through service-learning initiatives while earning credit toward their nursing degree.
PC nursing students engage in clinical healthcare right in the vibrant Providence and Rhode Island healthcare community. Students also have opportunities to perform clinical and community health experiences in other cities, such as Boston and New York.
Global Learning and Immersion Opportunities
The Department of Nursing has expanded opportunities for students to engage in meaningful international experiences. Future immersion programs—including service and learning in the Dominican Republic—will allow students to integrate service, global engagement, and their academic training in new and impactful ways.
Starting with the Class of 2029, nursing majors will also have the option to pursue full-semester study abroad programs in Sydney, Australia, and London, England, gaining a global perspective on healthcare and patient care that complements their rigorous academic and clinical training.

GLOBAL SPOTLIGHT: FRANCE PILGRIMAGE
In May 2025, undergraduate nursing students traveled to France for a 10-day academic and spiritual pilgrimage, immersing themselves in the Dominican tradition and the Catholic commitment to healing and human dignity. The experience combined historical exploration, service with the Little Sisters of the Poor, and time at Lourdes—an international center of pilgrimage and healing.
Through opportunities like this, the School of Nursing and Health Sciences prepares students to grow not only as skilled clinicians but also as compassionate caregivers, grounded in faith, reflection, and service. Beginning in 2027, this pilgrimage will be offered annually, giving future students the chance to integrate global travel, service learning, and spiritual formation into their nursing education.
Clinical Partnerships
Numerous area healthcare organizations have committed to providing Providence College nursing students with clinical placement experiences. These healthcare providers represent the full spectrum of healthcare – acute care hospitals, nonprofit healthcare organizations, faith-based providers, nursing homes and long-term care facilities, psychiatric and mental health facilities, and other sites serving diverse populations.
